1 Overall Chamber
2 Business Development
This division oversees the Chamber’s diversity programs, including management of the African American Business Council, the Hispanic Business Council, the International Trade Council and the Diversity Roundtable as well as programs for small businesses and the management of roundtables for entrepreneurs and executive women. It also provides direct services to members, including data gathering and dissemination, research, the Certificates of Origin program and the operation of the Chamber’s Business Service Center.
3 Community Development
Community Development initiatives include special programs to help the region recruit and retain young professionals (YPs), improvement of the Birmingham region’s image through the Birmingham Virtual Newsroom program, management of the Chamber’s website, educational programming, and production of the Chamber’s newsletter and e-newsletter. All media relations and external communications are managed in this division. In addition, the division maintains close liaison with elected officials in the City of Birmingham on matters involving the business community
4 Membership & Marketing
This division of the Chamber is the “rainmaking” arm of the Chamber, primarily through the recruitment and retention of members. The division also manages sponsorships, the annual Who’s Who, plans and implements a variety of membership- specific events including Business Before Hours, Business After Hours, Membership Receptions, and special added- value events for Trustee and Chairman’s Circle members, including CEO receptions, meetings with key political leaders, invitations to select community events and other opportunities
5 Public Policy
The Public Policy division is responsible for the development and advocacy of the Chamber’s political agendas in Montgomery and Washington, DC. In addition, the division manages programs/ committees related to Governmental Affairs, Environment, Public Safety and Security, Finance and Taxation, Transportation and Business Development.
6 Publications
The Publications division of the Chamber publishes the monthly Birmingham magazine, which is wholly owned and operated by the Chamber. The division also assists other Chamber divisions with layout, art direction and other communications services. In addition, the division, from time to time, produces special publications on behalf of the Chamber.
